Nothing like some good ol’ fashioned 80s thrash metal to make your weekend. Megadeth is easily one of the biggest names in the genre. They sit right up there with guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustain’s former band Metallica as well as other greats such as Iron Maiden as some of the most influential thrashers to have ever picked up guitars. They’re fast, heavy, and loads of fun. Just take a listen to “Killing Is My Business, and Business is good.” If there is anything I’m surprised by, it’s that Gigantour is taking on Shaw Conference Center rather than Rexall Place.
It’s not even the presence of Megadeth that makes this tour seem so worthy of our city’s main venue, but almost every group on this massive line-up could easily headline their own tour. Who doesn’t know Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades”? Motorhead will be another shot of adrenaline to an already explosive line-up.
And if you thought that the sets heavily 80s influenced headliners would alienate some crowds, Lacuna Coil, one of the most prestigious Goth Metal groups, is going to be present to add a little youth, as well as some estrogen to the mix.
The only groups that seems out of place is Volbeat. They’re a tad light and a tad country for a heavy show like this. We’ll see how they fare playing for a sea of metal-heads.
