The Sweet Reformation of Progressive Polygamy

The comedic duo from British Columbia, Emmelia Gordon and Pippa Mackie are a force to be reckoned with on stage with Progressive Polygamists. Their bodies hummed with recruitment eagerness in their white pioneer wear and braided hair as they searched the audience for members to join their polygamist commune…community. Their comedy embraced veiled vulgarity and repressed innuendos with impeccable timing. However, they were left with an absence of people to recruit once audience members were eliminated one-by-one due to their selection criteria. No Asians? Really?

Performing in the humid Holy Trinity Anglican Church venue, they provided frequent water mists to the crowd and themselves to provide moments of refreshment throughout the performance. One of the most entertaining portions was a question and answer section with the audience. They provided questions that were read aloud by audience members for the sister-wives to address. Topics included jealously over who would be able to procreate with their 90+ year-old husband or if they were ever curious to experiment with same-sex relations. They always began with what they would consider an appropriate answer; however, an artificial grin would barely be containing the real feelings behind their answers. Or if they verbally stumbled and revealed a bit too much of the truth, a quick hand slap at their naughty slip would be provided by a fellow sister-wife. Gordan and Mackie should be applauded for discussing the issues of polygamy with transparency and comedy. Perhaps there is something to be said for being sisters to the same mister. Be sure to catch this show before it is sold-out… if it isn’t already.
