Patrick Krief is Coming to Edmonton

Patrick Krief launched his first solo EP back in August 2007, Take It Or Leave, followed by ,Calm Awaits, in 2009 with his band, Black Diamond Bay. Now he’s coming to Edmonton with his newest work entitled, Hundred Thousand Pieces. You may recognize his name from his role as the dark and brooding guitarist for the Dears but this is not about that.  Whichever of his musical endeavours you choose to judge him by; there is no denying that he is a great musical proficient. All his solo works are very distinguishable from what he does with The Dears and this latest album reflects how well he has pursued and developed his own sound. Honestly, I did not really know what to expect, all I had really heard of his music was that it was commonly categorized as orchestral pop music. Upon first listen it was apparent that this album was very significant to Krief, hauntingly personal, accompanied by layers upon layers of melancholic instruments all intertwined with one another to attain a creatively intense and impressive entity.

Krief will be campus hopping this Friday from NAIT to U of A so I strongly suggest you take the time to stop by and show your support. If you don’t get a chance to see Krief on campus, he will also be doing a show at The Artery on Saturday, September 8th. Tickets are available through The Artery website, http://theartery.ca/, $10 in advance, doors are at 8pm.
